Frequently ASked Questions
How do I submit to the Archive?
Submit to the Haywood County LGBQTIA2S+ Archive by uploading materials at this link.
What kind of submissions are you looking for?
- We are actively collecting audio and video submissions of folks like you telling a story about your experience of being a Queer or Trans person in Haywood County.
- Audio and video files should be between 3 and 15 minutes long.
- We are also seeking additional materials, such as photos, documents, poems, zines, protest/march memorabilia, etc., especially as related to the story you tell in your recording.
How will my submission be used?
For now, the material(s) you submit will be used in one of two ways, depending on the permissions you give:
They will be available publicly in a database on the HayCo Pride website.
- They will be stored securely in a digital repository as part of the Archive, and can only be accessed by those you give permission to.
- HayCo Pride may approach you later about using your content for projects beyond the Archive’s digital interface. You have the right to refuse if this happens—you are still the owner of your content; the Archive is simply the keeper!
How do I know what to say?
We have a few questions in response to this question:
- Do you remember coming out for the first time in Haywood County?
- What was it like growing up Queer or Trans in Haywood County?
- What was it like moving to this area as a Queer or Trans person?
- Can you remember a time when you felt affirmed in your identity as a Queer Haywood Countian, or a time you considered leaving?
Only you know the story you have to tell. This Archive exists to amplify it!
Can I submit materials and remain anonymous?
You may choose to remain anonymous publicly. If this is the case, your name and other identifying details will need to be shared with HayCo Pride; however, they will remain confidential and only available to a select few who need to know for Archive management purposes.
Can I submit as an ally?
If you are an ally and want to contribute to the Archive, we encourage you to think about your Queer and Trans Haywood Countian friends and family who guided your allyship/activist journey, and interview or record a conversation with them.
You may tell a story about a Queer or Trans friend or family member only if they are no longer with us to tell the story themselves or have their explicit permission, which the Archive will verify.
If this sounds harsh, we invite you to consider why you feel the need for your voice to be as loud as those whose voices this Archive exists to amplify and preserve.
What if I don’t want/have the ability to record myself?
Reach out via this form, and we will touch base with you and assist you in recording.
What if I need help uploading my material(s)?
Reach out to us via email, and we will set up a time for one of our Archivists to assist you in uploading your files!
How will my submission be protected?
All submissions will be stored in a secure cloud and backed up on an encrypted hard drive.
What if I change my mind about my material being part of the Archive?
You have the right to revoke consent at any time. At your written request, HayCo Pride will remove your materials from the public database and/or destroy them altogether.
