This is the virtual home of the Haywood County LGBTQIA2S+ Archive, a testament to the rich tapestry of LGBTQIA+ lives in our community. The Archive is a growing collection of oral histories, personal narratives, and artifacts that reflect the vibrant experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals who have lived in or have ties to Haywood County.
Filling in the Gaps
We strive to address historical and narrative gaps by providing a platform for Queer and Trans folks in Haywood County to celebrate our joy, resilience, and triumphs in the face of discriminatory rhetoric and oppressive systems.
Staking Our Claim
We honor the diverse identities and histories of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals across Haywood County through the collection, amplification, and preservation of personal stories and experiences. These stories are woven together in the Archive to blanket our community in a tapestry of history that shows that we are here, have always been here, and aren’t going anywhere. We belong here.
Countering the Narrative
The Archive serves as a resource for current and future generations to explore and understand the breadth of LGBTQIA+ life in our community. We work to create a safe and inclusive environment for historically marginalized groups within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, including elders, youths, BIPOC individuals, people from working class backgrounds, and those with disabilities.
