frequently asked questions

What does HayCo Pride Do?

HayCo Pride is devoted to working towards an inclusive and safe community for all the people of Haywood County by filling in gaps of missing narrative representation and community support for LGBTQIA+ folks. We offer mutual aid, cultural events, and shared spaces that nurture queer joy and encourage reciprocity through service to our community, while challenging homophobic and transphobic rhetoric and false narratives. What happened to the Queer Culture Celebration?

HayCo Pride’s Queer Culture Celebration, originally set for October 5, 2024, was cancelled in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. A rescheduled date for this event is still TBD as we continue to show up in and for our community year-round through mutual aid efforts and the creation of safe gathering spaces.

Are you the parade people?

Haywood County Pride (“HayCo Pride”) is a separate entity from Haywood County Pride on Main, which puts on the parade and festival in June. Money donated to HayCo Pride does not go towards the yearly festival–rather, it goes to our year-round community support work. Similarly, money donated to Haywood County Pride on Main does not finance the year-round community support work of HayCo Pride.
