Description
*There is a maximum limit of 120 squares available for this event.*
The contributions that you provide in exchange for Quilt Squares are considered tax deductible, charitable donations.
Join us in weaving a vibrant tapestry of support and solidarity! This community-driven art project invites our neighbors of all backgrounds to contribute to a magnificent, collaborative quilt inspired by the history of both Appalachian Barn Quilts and AIDS Quilts. You can join us to make your mark in our own local history through this connective, communal activity.
When you contribute to HayCo Pride any amount of $20 or more, you will receive a quilt square for yourself or someone else to decorate and exhibit in the Community Quilt Mural at the Haywood County Pride Queer Culture Celebration on October 5th, 2024.
Each square will include a reinforced fabric square, size 1’x1′ made out of a blank, NOT patterned fabric of a white/beige color.
Each square comes with the option to:
- reserve your square for pick-up on the day of the event,
- receive your square by mail approximately the first week of September for you to decorate prior to the event,
- sponsor a “square scholarship” for other participants, to help ensure that no one is turned away due to lack of finances.
With each embroidered shape, and each unique color, we weave together our community made of compassion, inclusion, nurturing, and vibrant diversity. 100% of proceeds from this endeavor go towards establishing HayCo Pride’s mutual aid fund for LGBTQIA+ youth, as well as providing LGBT+ centered books in Little Libraries across Haywood County. Our goal is to launch the mutual aid fund with $1,969 in honor of the Stonewall Riots of 1969; you can help us reach our goal and in doing so, honor our Queer ancestors that came both before and after us.
Don’t miss the chance to make a difference while making history – grab your square and help ensure a future where everyone in Haywood County is safe and welcome.
All contributions are final and nonrefundable. Unfortunately, this includes refunds for contributions in exchange for Quilt Squares — due to the limited nature of their availability and the time frame of this event. If you are unable to pick up or decorate your Quilt Square, we encourage you to contribute your square towards a Sponsorship for someone else in the community so that we don’t have to turn anyone away due to lack of funds. Please let us know if you need to change your preferred Delivery Method to a Sponsorship at any time after you make your contribution.
